About This Campaign
Over 13 million older Americans live in poverty or right on its edge, with annual incomes of only $22,000 or below. These seniors have to decide each day whether to pay for medicine, food, rent, or utilities. They live one missed rent check, one health problem, or one lost job away from financial crisis. Despite their struggles, their voices are unheard, and they face a frustrating system ill-equipped to respond to their needs.
A Voice for Elders in Need
One Away is an innovative, national video advocacy campaign that gives voice to these older adults who are struggling to make ends meet. One Away is spotlighting the challenges facing millions of older adults in this economy by allowing them to tell their own stories on video. It’s also calling for legislative and policy changes to make it easier for vulnerable seniors to get the services and supports they need to remain independent and secure—from benefits and job training to housing and transportation.
Local Advocacy Partners
Central to One Away are our Local Advocacy Partners. These organization leaders in cities across the country are capturing video stories of older adults, holding screening events and rallies, conducting outreach to state and congressional lawmakers, and using campaign social media tools to garner support.
