  • Keeping Our Loved Ones in the Community and Out of Nursing Homes

Emma's 85 year old mother and her 102 year old Gran rely on home and community based services provided through the Older Americans Act (OAA) to remain in the community and out of nursing homes. As Congress debates OAA funding and reauthorization this fall, we must raise our voices in support of the OAA—and urge our members of Congress to do the same!

Stories Of Struggle

  • Hi, My name is Rosie. I'm 65. Living in a one bed condo, which my mortgage is $826 + 163 for assoc, + utilities, which adds up to 1328.00 a month. My SS is only 1247, leaving me in a hole of almost 100.00 a month, no extra income. I feel I'm in a needy status. No one will hire me because of my age. Rosa Forest Park, IL
  • I lost my last regular job about three years ago under what I thought were very suspicious circumstances. Have batted depression ever since, as the only work I have been able to get is part-time very occasional. Technology has made so many jobs obsolete, and this is an angle that doesn't come up in policy discussions as often as it should. Seniors should become more involved in the Occupy movement as it affects them very severely. Have dream of publishing a book, but the cost of doing so is prohibitive. Brian Villa Park, IL
