A Critical Time for Human Services
This is a critical time in our nation. I have been asking my colleagues in the human service arena if they remember a time where so much has been at stake for older adults and people with disabilities, and the response invariably is no. The response is even more passionate when you consider those that are further at risk due to economic insecurity!
Advocacy Events at the Heritage Agency
As the Executive Director of The Heritage Area Agency on Aging, I have the honor of working with many aging and disability organizations and advocates. These dedicated people helped to make a forum held by Heritage on November 2, 2011 a great success!
This forum provided timely information and resources to help participants serve as even better advocates for older adults and people with disabilities. The event was attended by more than 150 people and included many elected officials and policy makers along with their staff and other dignitaries.
EVENT: A Celebration of Caregivers
This Friday, November 18, at 8:30 a.m., the Heritage Area Agency on Aging is hosting its 10th annual caregiver wellness day event, “A Celebration of Caregivers,” to give support and encouragement to informal caregivers of older adults in East Central Iowa. This free event will help informal caregivers focus on their own health and well-being, through a keynote address and breakout sessions.
Stories Of Struggle
It looks quite selfish on the part of Republicans.
Sally West Branch, IAIt is living a nightmare. Always worries lurking. So much thought how to make ends meet that get further away, price of everything goes up. Everyday a roller coaster. The rules keep changing!
Nancey Iowa City, IAMost people can't afford to grow old. Don't republicants have older relatives or have the death panels taken care of them?
Jean Ankeny, IAHealthcare costs have crippled my parents, and since my mother passed away a few months ago, without her social security check each month, the struggle is that much harder for my father.
Pamela Des Moines, IACome on! Support seniors and the future seniors. Be an advocate for raising the taxes on the very rich top 2% of Americans.
