  • Former SCSEP Participant Shares Powerful Testimony During Primary Health and Aging Subcommittee Hearing on Capitol Hill

    Former Vermont Associates and SCSEP Participant Gail Ruggles did a wonderful job yesterday testifying before Chairman Sen. Sanders and the Primary Health and Aging subcommittee.  She represented herself, Vermont Associates and the SCSEP tremendously and highlighted the positive impact SCSEP has had on her life and the struggles and difficult decisions seniors face as they rely on Social Security benefits. 

  • As the Reauthorization of the Older Americans Act Loomes, Vermont Senior to Testify in Washington DC on the Inpact of the Senior Community Service Employment Program

    Former Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) Participant from Vermont to testify October 18, 2011 before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging.  The Chair of the subcommittee is Senator Bernie Sanders, (VT-I).  The testimony will tell a story of a seniors struggles that were improved by the training she received in the SCSEP that lead to FT employment.

  • SCSEP Budget Cuts Affecting Low Income Vermont Seniors

    Almost all social service agencies throughout the country recently received the news that their programs would face a budget cut. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which is the only national jobs training program for low-income seniors, fared no better, being hit with a 25.2% cut effective July 1, 2011.

  • Senator Sanders Holds Town Meeting on Senior Citizen Issues

    At his June 25 town meeting on senior citizen issues, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told the crowd that Vermont seniors need help and support and that he is attempting to address those needs by strengthening Social Security benefits and reducing the federal budget without sacrificing senior support service programs.

    I was fortunate to participate—representing Vermont Associates and One Away—and urged seniors to join the One Away campaign by sharing their stories of economic struggle.

    Vermont Associates for Training and Development, Inc. is proud to partner with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) on the One Away Campaign for Elder Economic Security. As Vermont's only resource for mature worker specific services, Vermont Associates has an almost three-decade history of advocating for older adults in their search for employment, which is perhaps the issue most central to economic security.
